[not] now
2019
"[not] now" is a 6h long performative installation which is quite literally making time tangible - for the performers as well as the spectators that can enter and exit the gallery at any moment. Based on a set of 10 rules that are on display for everyone to see, the three performers cover the empty white walls and floors of the exhibition space with a complex art work made out of colorful tapes. The never-ending gluing of the tape, which in itself suggests the passage of time as each crossing archives an encounter, is interrupted by short scenes of spoken text and movement, which address mindfulness, tempo, inhibition, repetition and waiting.
Björn Schmidt developed a slit-scan camera technology which captures the taped lines and the bodies that are at work. A distorted version of the live performance is continuously transmitted to a website that indicates to the viewers online whether the performance is happening now or not now.
